City of Bellingham Tour
We will spend the day enjoying a few of the museums and the downtown of our host City, Bellingham. Leaving from the Bellingham Yacht Club, the Ambassadors will first stop at our Old City Hall Museum where we will, as we will at all stops, have a private docent tour. Our next Museum will be the Lightcatcher Art Museum, after which we will (weather permitting) enjoy our lunch on the Library Lawn, followed with a meeting with the Mayor of Bellingham. Our next stop will be the Mt. Baker Theater where we are planning on an organ recital and then we will then visit the Spark Museum. Finally, on our short walk back to the Bellingham Yacht Club, we plan to stop for a quick tour of Chuckanut Brewery (probably have a glass as well) before returning to the BYC to meet the racers and host families.

As the lay-day, both Ambassadors and the Racers will spend a very special day touring several of the Pacific Northwest’s most visited sites. These include the Seattle Premium Outlets in Tulalip, followed by an afternoon at Paine Field in Everett, WA. Paine Field is home to the world’s largest building (Boeing Aircraft Assembly Plant) as well as several private collections of historic aircraft. We will depart the Bellingham Yacht Club in the morning by bus to Paine Field where we will have two tours, (after we visit the Seattle Premium Outlets):
Seattle Premium Outlets
Located on the Tulalip Nation, the Seattle Premium Outlets are comprised of 125 OUTLET STORES and is a favorite stop for many. While it is possible to spend a full day shopping, we will only have an hour or so on our way to Paine Field. However, you will find impressive savings at Adidas, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, BCBG Max Azria, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Coach, DKNY, Guess, J.Crew, Joe’s Jeans, Kenneth Cole, Lacoste, Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren, Restoration Hardware, Tommy Hilfiger and more, so you might want to think about which of those stores would be of interest.
Future of Flight Museum
One of Seattle’s favorite aviation attractions is the Boeing Factory Tour and we have arranged for a PacRim 2014 Participant only tour. Because the number of people for each tour is limited, we will actually divide ourselves into two groups. While one group tours the Boeing Factory, the other will tour the Historic Flight Museum (see below) and then we will switch so everyone can see both.
The Boeing factory —the world’s largest building — is where the very same jets you probably were a passenger on are assembled and is the only opportunity to tour a commercial jet assembly plant in North America. You can also explore the dynamics of flight and experience new aviation innovations. Some of you may want to strap yourself into the Innovator for an exhilarating trip to virtual destinations and experiences like the Battle for Iwo Jima, a Grand Prix Race or a barnstorming stunt plane before you enter the factory.
Historic Flight Museum
While one group tours Boeing, the other group will have a tour of the Historic Flight Foundation which was established in 2003 as “John T. Sessions Historic Aircraft Foundation” with the intention to collect, restore, and share significant aircraft from the period between the solo Atlantic crossing of Charles Lindbergh and the first test flight of the Boeing 707. Throughout the intervening years, Historic Flight has acquired at least two aircraft annually and engaged the best restoration resources available to return the collection to original splendor.

When we return from our lay-day tour to the Bellingham Yacht Club, we will have an informal potluck with your Host Families and guests. This will be a relaxing end to a great lay-day!
We will cruise to Friday Harbor, in the heart of the San Juan Islands and on the way you can relax and enjoy our nature cruise aboard the Island Caper, a comfortable 110′ boat with modern amenities allowing you to sit and visit at a table for eating snacks, or stand up and walk around, inside or outside, while onboard. You will see the breathtaking island scenery, hear local folklore and learn interesting facts from an onboard naturalist, who can also answer questions about the wild life you may encounter such as; Orca whales, Minke whales, porpoises, seals, sea lions, bald eagles and a variety of sea birds.
While in Friday Harbor, you will be able to spend the 2-3 hours shopping, or having lunch in one of the many restaurants.

Skagit Wildlife Reserve
The Skagit estuary contains critical habitats for waterfowl, shorebirds, fish and other aquatic species. This is truly one of the most unique natural habitats in the Pacific Northwest. We will leave the Bellingham Yacht Club and travel via coach to the Headquarters of the Skagit estuary where we will get a private presentation by John Garret, Ranger (retired). After our tour, we will sample a few of the favorite spots in the beautiful Skagit Valley before we return to the Bellingham Yacht Club to meet the racers and find out the results of the day.
